** reasons why Rory brings Granda out of Rachnadar
Pg. 54-58
Rory knows that Granda dislikes staying in Rachnadar. Granda has once said told Rory to shoot him first before putting him in Rachnadar. (Page 11)
When Rory sees Granda crying with tears streaming down his face, asking him whether he is going to take him home, Rory also cries.
For Granda, Rachnadar is a place where "they put old folds that nobody wants". Granda mentions that nowadays nobody cares about anybody but themselves. People in his younger days cared about each other. For Granda , it is a horrible world now. Granda also said that if he was younger, he would run away from Rachnadar to somewhere people would never find him.
Rory also doesn't like staying in Castle Street. (Give reasons)
Rory realises that Granda is dying in Rachnadar. He may breathe, walk and eat but he would be dead inside. Even the nurses talk to him as if he were a little baby. All these make Rory realise that he has to bring Granda out of Rachnadar. Rory decides to run away with Granda to fulfill his responsibility as a grandson and the only family Granda has at that moment.
Pg 59 - 63 , chapter 13
Rory is very responsible, he doesn't just bring Granda out of Rachnadar without any plan. He spends 3 days to put together his plan and organise everything . (pg59)
Firstly, he gets some help from Darren who suggests that he use Darren's Mum's Caravan. Darren gives Rory the caravan's spare key.
Secondly, he wedges open the emergency exit door to make sure it is open during the escape
Thirdly, he also gathers Granda's clothes when Val takes him back to the flat. He has already taken Granda's pill on his first visit to his burnt apartment.
Fourth, when he comes back to take Granda out of Rachnadar, he takes along all the things Granda needs such as his false teeth, his hearing aid and makes sure granda wears shoes instead of just slippers so that he doesn't catch pneumonia.\(pg 63)
pg 64-66, Chapter 14
Rory is very clever. Rory and Granda went to the train station and board the train. The train's final stop was at the pierhead where passengers would connect withthe ferries that sailed to the islands or the towns on the other side of the river.
Rory wanted to make people believe that they had gone to the islands or to the towns far down the clyde. Even Granda thought that was where they were going. When Granda realised where they were actually going ( a secluded area where Darren's mum's caravan is situated) , he said to Rory, " you are a genius, son" and he laughed loudly.
